Pronoun sorting
Study 8 sentences on the board — some using أنا, some using هو, some using هي. You sort them into three columns on mini whiteboards. Then ask: "What is the difference between اسمي and اسمه and اسمها?" Discuss in pairs for 60 seconds. Establish: the ending on اسم changes depending on who we are talking about (my/his/her). This is the core grammar of the lesson.
Possessive suffixes — my, his, her
On the board: اسم → اسمي (my name) / اسمه (his name) / اسمها (her name). Drill with other nouns: عمر → عمري / عمره / عمرها. بلد → بلدي / بلده / بلدها. Write the three forms for 5 nouns in their books. Then: picture card activity — teacher or partner holds up a picture card (fictional person) and asks: "ما اسمه؟ كم عمره؟ من أين هو؟" You answer using هو + اسمه etc. Repeat with female character → هي + اسمها.
Partner profile — introducing your classmate
You interview their partner (using questions from lessons 1–6) and complete a written profile: "اسمه/اسمها... عمره/عمرها... هو/هي من... يتكلَّم/تتكلَّم..." After 8 minutes of interviewing and writing, You stand and introduce their partner to the class in Arabic (6–8 sentences). Class listens and writes one fact they heard about each person introduced. This is a genuine communicative task — it will directly transfer to IGCSE Paper 3 topic conversations about friends and family.
He speaks / She speaks — verb prefix preview
Write on board: أَتَكَلَّم (I speak) / يَتَكَلَّم (he speaks) / تَتَكَلَّم (she speaks). Point out the prefixes: أ = I, يـ = he, تـ = she. You do not need to know the full table — just these three. Practise: "ما اللغة التي يتكلَّمها؟" "يتكلَّم العربية." Give You 5 sentences to complete (choose يتكلَّم or تتكلَّم based on the subject).
Class "Who's Who" board
Each student writes 3 sentences about their partner on a post-it note (in Arabic). These are added to the class Study board: "اسمها فاطمة. عمرها ١٢ سنة. هي من لندن." Read 5–6 aloud together as a class. You can walk around and read them during the next few days. This creates a real sense of community and purpose — real language about real people.
