Strategy review and prediction
Remind yourself of Paper 1 format: each text heard TWICE; questions are in English (for Paper 1) or Arabic. Today we practise in Arabic. Study the 3 task sheets. You spend 4 minutes reading through ALL the questions before any audio plays — this is the prediction phase. Annotate: "In Question 1 I am listening for a NUMBER. In Question 2 I am listening for a PLACE NAME." This focused prediction is the single most important IGCSE listening strategy.

Three listening tasks — IGCSE format
Task 1 (6 questions, multiple choice, 4 options): Hana describes her home — number of rooms, colours, location relative to shops, family members living there, her opinion of the home. Text played twice. Task 2 (5 questions, true/false): Ibrahim describes his family — ages, nationalities, languages. Text played twice. Task 3 (matching): 3 people each describe a room in their home — match person to room description. Text played twice. Between each task: 60 seconds for you to check/change answers. your partner does NOT help during tasks — this replicates exam conditions.

Answer review and strategy analysis
Go through all answers together. For each wrong answer: WHY was it wrong? Was it a distractor word (a word that sounded like the answer but wasn't)? Was it a similar number? Did the speaker use هو where you expected هي? This explicit error analysis is crucial — it teaches you to listen more carefully to the specific features that distinguish correct from incorrect answers. Record common errors on paper.

Complete a strategy checklist: Did I read questions before listening? Did I focus on key word types (number/name/place)? Did I use the second listen to check rather than redo? Did I answer all questions (no blanks)? Identify their strongest strategy and their weakest. "The most common mistake today was [X]. Here is how to avoid it next time."

Play 30 seconds of one audio text again. Write down every Arabic word they understood (not just the answer words). Count: how many? Share across the class. Celebrate: "Three months ago none of you could understand any Arabic speech. Today you understood [average number] words per 30 seconds." This progress affirmation is motivating and accurate.
