Reading comprehension — Texts 1 and 2
Text 1 (Layla): Read silently for 2 minutes. Then annotation: circle family members in blue, underline room/furniture vocabulary in orange. Answer 5 comprehension questions in Arabic full sentences: أين تسكن ليلى؟ كم غرفة في شقتها؟ ما لون أريكتها؟ هل شقتها قريبة من المدرسة؟ صِفي غرفة نوم ليلى. Go through answers. Text 2 (Omar): less vowelled — more challenging. Same annotation process. 4 questions: ما اسم أخيه؟ كم سنة عمر جدته؟ أين يسكن عمر؟ ما رأيه في بيته؟ (opinion question — find the sentence). This mirrors Paper 2 Questions 3 and 6 formats.

Working with unvowelled text
You look at Text 2 again (less vowelled). Identify: which words can you read without vowels? Which are harder? Strategy: use known word patterns, grammatical context, and surrounding words. You attempt to add the missing vowels to 5 key words using their knowledge. Then teacher or partner reveals fully vowelled version — compare. Discuss: what strategies worked? This directly develops Paper 2 reading skills.

Identifying opinion vs fact
Give You 6 sentences from the texts. Classify each as: رأي (opinion) or حقيقة (fact). Examples: "في شقتي ثلاث غرف نوم" (fact) vs "أحب بيتنا لأنه واسع" (opinion). Discuss: what language signals opinion? (أحب، أعتقد، في رأيي، لأن). Note: identifying opinion in texts is tested in Paper 2 R3 — this is targeted preparation.

Comprehension check and class discussion
Go through all answers together. teacher or partner addresses common errors. Then discussion: "Which home would you prefer to live in — Layla's or Omar's? Say one sentence in Arabic." You produce: "أفضِّل بيت [name] لأن..." (I prefer... because...) — أفضِّل introduced here receptively. You copy both texts into vocabulary section for reference and revision.
