العربية
English
Matched: 0 / 6
Stretch challenge
Choose three matched items and combine them into one accurate sentence or short exchange.
Grammar
Read the rule, notice the pattern and then produce your own examples.
Retrieval and extension: يَفتَقِر إلى (from D3 — lacks) applied to nutrition: هذه الوجبة تفتقر إلى البروتين. يَحتَوي على: already encountered in F5 — now used with scientific precision. غَني بـ (rich in — adjective + بـ): السمك غني بالأحماض الدهنية. Passive يُوصى بـ (is recommended): يُوصى بتناول خمس حصص من الفاكهة يومياً. P1 introduces a more systematic use of passive in academic writing — this unit begins that progression.
Notice the pattern
- يَحتَوي البيض على بُروتين.
- تُوفِّر الكَربوهيدرات الطَّاقة.
- يَحتَوي هذا الطعام على دُهون.
- يَجِب التَّقليل من الدُّهون المُشبَعة.
Accuracy checklist
- Check the subject and verb or noun/adjective agreement.
- Check gender, number and tense or time frame.
- Use the lesson structure in a complete, meaningful sentence.
- Read the sentence aloud and correct anything that sounds incomplete.

Skills Practice
Practise listening, reading, speaking and writing with the same lesson language.
Listening
Listen for key details. Listen twice: first for the overall meaning, then for evidence.
🎧 Recorded audio coming soon — use the device voice for listening practice now. Keep the transcript hidden for your first two listens.
- What is the main topic or situation?
- Write two key details you hear.
- Which word or phrase helped you decide?
Check your listening
A successful answer identifies the main topic, at least three accurate words and one relevant detail. Replay once, then reveal the transcript only if you still need support.
Reading
Underline known words before answering.
- What is the main idea or situation?
- Choose one phrase and explain what it means in this context.
- Find one example that shows the lesson language or grammar in use.
- What extra detail could you add to make the text more complete?
Reading support
Start with names, numbers, repeated words, connectors and familiar verb patterns. You do not need to translate every word.
Speaking
Build your answer, then ask a follow-up question.
- Choose three questions from this unit and answer them aloud without notes. Re-record or repeat the weakest answer.
- Use at least three useful items from this lesson and one complete sentence with the target grammar.
- Add one reason, detail or example instead of giving only a short answer.
Working alone? Record yourself for 30–60 seconds, listen back once, and improve one pronunciation, grammar or fluency point.
Writing
Plan, write, check and improve.
Task: Write a focused response about health or lifestyle using the lesson focus, a reason and a supporting detail. Target: 80–100 words, extending to 130–140 words for an extended exam-style task.
Activities
Complete the activities in order, or choose the one that addresses your weakest area.
P1 launch — what you bring from D1–D6
Welcome to P1. Quick retrieval sprint: your partner says 15 Arabic words from Years 7–8 (food, health, body, environment) — Write translations. Self-mark. Celebrate: these words came from two years of work. Connect: "P1 is consolidation — everything you know gets deeper, more precise, and more IGCSE-ready. P1 starts with healthy lifestyles — you covered food in F5 and health in D1. Today we go further: nutrition science in Arabic." Write this down: التغذية العلمية.
Nutrition vocabulary — academic precision
Present nutrition vocabulary. Key distinction from F1–F6: F1–F6 used everyday food terms (لذيذ، صحي، مفيد). P1 uses scientific terms (بروتين، كربوهيدرات، دهون مشبعة). Create a nutrition vocabulary table: term → Arabic → what it does in the body (one sentence). Model: "البروتين يُساعد في بناء العضلات وإصلاح الأنسجة. الكربوهيدرات تُوفِّر الطاقة للجسم." Write 4 such sentences. Then: غَني بـ vs يَفتَقِر إلى: you apply both to 6 foods from F1–F6 vocabulary: "الشوكولاتة غنية بالسعرات الحرارية لكنَّها تفتقر إلى الفيتامينات."
Nutritional analysis — meal description (80–90 words)
Study an image of a traditional Arabic meal (e.g. منسف — rice, lamb, jameed sauce, bread). Write a nutritional analysis: P1 — what the meal contains (يحتوي على، غني بـ). P2 — nutritional strengths and weaknesses (يوفِّر، يفتقر إلى، يُوصى بـ). P3 — how to make it more balanced (يُمكِن إضافة، من الأفضَل أَن). Requirements: يحتوي على (2 times), غني بـ (2 times), يفتقر إلى (1), يُوصى بـ (1 passive), modal advice (1). This academic writing style is new for P1 — it directly mirrors the register of Paper 2 health and nutrition texts and Paper 4 Q3 health topics.
Nutrition label reading task
Use an Arabic product nutrition label (model — yoghurt or hummus, similar to real Arabic product packaging). You answer: What are the main nutrients? Per 100g, how much protein? Is this product low-fat or high-fat? Would you recommend this to someone following a balanced diet? Why? Answer in Arabic. This authentic text-type reading (product label) appears in Paper 2 Q1/Q2 (signs and notices) and this early practice builds confidence.
Nutrition quiz — which food wins?
your partner describes two foods nutritionally (without naming them). You guess which is healthier using the vocabulary. "هذا الطعام غني بالبروتين ويحتوي على دهون غير مشبعة. ذاك الطعام غني بالسكر ويفتقر إلى الألياف." Write: "الطعام الأول أكثر فائدةً من الثاني لأنَّه غني بـ.. ويحتوي على.. في حين أنَّ الثاني يفتقر إلى.." This competitive, analytical framing makes the vocabulary immediately engaging.
Useful to have

- Nutrition label reading task (Arabic product labels)
Stretch challenge
If you already speak some Arabic at home: write a nutritional analysis (100+ words) of a traditional dish from their heritage — using scientific nutrition vocabulary (بروتين، كربوهيدرات، دهون مشبعة/غير مشبعة، ألياف، فيتامينات) to assess its health value. Include recommendations for improving its nutritional balance. Formal MSA register throughout.
