Matched: 0 / 6
Stretch challenge
Choose three matched items and combine them into one accurate sentence or short exchange.
Grammar
Read the rule, notice the pattern and then produce your own examples.
Conditional sentences — P1 KEY NEW GRAMMAR: Type 1 (real condition): إِذا + present tense → future: إِذا تمرَّنتَ يومياً، ستشعر بتحسُّن (if you exercise daily, you will feel better). Type 2 (hypothetical): لَو + past tense → past conditional (لَكان/لَكانت): لَو نِمتَ جيداً، لَكنتَ أكثر تركيزاً (if you had slept well, you would be more focused). Type 1 is the priority — active production. Type 2 is introduced receptively. يُعاني من (Form III: suffers from — root ع-ن-و): أُعاني من التوتر (I suffer from stress).
Notice the pattern
- الصِّحَّة النَّفسِيَّة مُهِمَّة.
- أُعاني من التَّوتُّر.
- القَلَق يُؤَثِّر على النَّوم.
- يَحتاج الاِكتِئاب إلى دَعم.
Accuracy checklist
- Check the subject and verb or noun/adjective agreement.
- Check gender, number and tense or time frame.
- Use the lesson structure in a complete, meaningful sentence.
- Read the sentence aloud and correct anything that sounds incomplete.

Skills Practice
Practise listening, reading, speaking and writing with the same lesson language.
Listening
Listen for sequence. Listen twice: first for the overall meaning, then for evidence.
🎧 Recorded audio coming soon — use the device voice for listening practice now. Keep the transcript hidden for your first two listens.
- What is the main topic or situation?
- What comes first, next and last?
- Write one time or sequence clue you hear.
Check your listening
A successful answer identifies the main topic, at least three accurate words and one relevant detail. Replay once, then reveal the transcript only if you still need support.
Reading
Underline known words before answering.
- What is the main idea or situation?
- Choose one phrase and explain what it means in this context.
- Find one example that shows the lesson language or grammar in use.
- What extra detail could you add to make the text more complete?
Reading support
Start with names, numbers, repeated words, connectors and familiar verb patterns. You do not need to translate every word.
Speaking
Build your answer, then ask a follow-up question.
- Give a clear view about health or lifestyle using the lesson focus. Support it with a reason and an example.
- Use at least three useful items from this lesson and one complete sentence with the target grammar.
- Add one reason, detail or example instead of giving only a short answer.
Working alone? Record yourself for 30–60 seconds, listen back once, and improve one pronunciation, grammar or fluency point.
Writing
Plan, write, check and improve.
Task: Write a focused response about health or lifestyle using the lesson focus, a reason and a supporting detail. Target: 80–100 words, extending to 130–140 words for an extended exam-style task.
Activities
Complete the activities in order, or choose the one that addresses your weakest area.
How are you feeling? — Arabic emotional vocabulary
Study a feelings spectrum in Arabic: سعيد جداً ← راضٍ ← قلِق ← متوتِّر ← مُكتَئِب. Ask yourself to indicate where they are today (anonymously — hands up for each category). Introduce: "Mental health is one of the most important and least discussed topics in Arabic-speaking communities. Today we build the language to talk about it — not to be dramatic, but to be honest." This normalising approach to mental health vocabulary is both culturally sensitive and genuinely important.
Mental health vocabulary and conditional sentences — Type 1
Present mental health vocabulary with يُعاني من، يَتَعامَل مع، يَتَغَلَّب على. Write 4 sentences using these verbs. Then: CONDITIONAL TYPE 1 (إِذا + present → سـ future). Write the paradigm out: إِذا + [present tense action] + [comma] + [future tense consequence]. Examples: إِذا تحدَّثتَ مع أصدقائك عن مشكلاتك، سيشعر وزنُك بالخِفَّة. إِذا نِمتَ ثماني ساعات، ستتحسَّن صحَّتُك النفسية. Write 5 Type 1 conditionals on mental health themes. Check: is the consequence in future tense (سـ)? This is the most common error.
Wellbeing advice text (90–100 words)
Write a wellbeing advice text addressed to a friend who is stressed: P1 — acknowledge the situation (present + يُعاني من): "أعلم أنَّك تُعاني من ضغط كثير في الدراسة. Must include: يُعاني من (1), conditional Type 1 (2), modal advice (2), future tense (2).
Type 2 conditional — receptive introduction
Study 3 Type 2 conditionals: "لَو نِمتُ مبكِّراً، لَكنتُ أكثر نشاطاً اليوم. لَو اهتممتُ بصحَّتي، لَما شعرتُ بهذا التعب." Identify: (1) لَو + past tense, (2) لـَ + past conditional in the result. They do NOT produce Type 2 yet — receptive only. But seeing it here prepares them for its full introduction in P5 (Social Issues).
Wellbeing prescription cards
Write a wellbeing prescription card (بطاقة عافِيَّة) for themselves: 3 things they will do if they feel stressed (using إِذا + present → سـ). Read 5 around the class. "You have just used conditional sentences in Arabic — إِذا is one of the most important words in the IGCSE exam. It appears in reading texts, in listening audio, and it is a Range marker in Paper 4 writing. Using it correctly from today is a significant step forward."
