Papers face down. "Two conditional types. One real future (إذا + present → future). One hypothetical past (لَو + past → لـَ + past conditional). The difference between them is the difference between planning and reflection — between hope and wisdom. Use both today." You each write one sentence with لَو from memory — their best Type 2 conditional. Papers over.

Text 1 (55 sec): A traveller describes a trip to Jordan — 8 multiple choice (3 options): what they had booked before departing (past perfect + يحجُز/يُقيم), what their guide said about Petra (reported speech), their Type 1 conditional plan for next time, their Type 2 conditional regret about what they didn't do, what transport they used (vocabulary), a cultural custom mentioned, their opinion on sustainable tourism, a statistic about Petra visitor numbers. 8 marks. Text 2 (45 sec): Two people discuss sustainable tourism — matching (Person A / Person B / Both). 6 statements — conditional types tested. 6 marks. Text 3 (55 sec): Transport authority on new infrastructure — select TWO correct from five. Academic register. 6 marks.

Part B — Reading and Writing (30 marks)

Reading (10 marks): 85-word sustainable tourism article (partly vowelled — includes both conditional types). 6 questions: 1 R1 (main argument), 2 R2 (factual details), 2 R3 (including "identify the Type 2 conditional in paragraph 3 and explain what argumentative purpose it serves"), 1 R4 (gap-fill — choose between Type 1 and Type 2 conditional forms: present or past tense in the gap). Writing Q1 (5 marks): Travel planning form — fill in 5 fields in Arabic (destination using يُقيم في, booking method using يَحجُز, one past perfect statement about prior research, one Type 1 conditional plan, one Type 2 conditional reflection on a previous trip). Writing Q2 (15 marks): Article or email (145–160 words): choose from (A) "رِحلة مَاضِيَّة غيَّرَت نَظرَتي إلى العالَم", (B) "وِجهَتي المُفَضَّلة — لِماذا يَجِب أَن تَزورَها؟", (C) "السِّياحة المُستَدامة — ضَرورة أَم رَفاهِيَّة؟" TC (5), Range (5 — both conditional types = 2 separate marks), Accuracy (5 — Type 2 لـَ prefix primary).

Role play (4 marks): Travel agency consultation — 4 prompts: ask about a destination (يستقطِب/يتميَّز بـ expected in response), ask about booking options (يحجُز/يُقيم expected), describe a past holiday problem (past tense + past perfect), ask for a conditional recommendation (إذا... سـ expected from agent). Communication (2) + Accuracy (2 — يحجُز/يُقيم past form accuracy). Topic conversation (6 marks): 3 questions — "صِف إِجازةً ماضِيَّة — ما الذي كنتَ قد تَوَقَّعتَه؟ (past perfect required) ما رَأيُك في السِّياحة المُستَدامة؟ (Type 1 conditional in answer expected) لَو كانَ لَديك مِيزانِيَّة غَير مَحدودة، أَين ستَذهَب؟ (Type 2 conditional explicitly required)" Communication (3) + QoL (3 — both conditional types correct, past perfect accurate, reported speech natural).

Heritage readers: write a 160-word travel memoir extract — in the tradition of classical Arabic رحلات literature — describing a journey through an Arab country. Use: four-layer narrative structure (past perfect → past → past reflection → conditional), reported speech from people encountered, both conditional types for analysis and reflection, and formal literary Arabic vocabulary. Mark against full Paper 4 Q3 mark scheme.
