Healthy or unhealthy lifestyle? Quick sort
Study 10 lifestyle habits (images): sleeping 8 hours / eating fast food daily / walking 30 minutes / drinking 2L water / skipping breakfast / eating fruit and vegetables / watching TV 5 hours / exercising 3x per week / eating too much sugar / smoking. You thumbs up (صحي) or thumbs down (غير صحي). Brief discussion: "Why is this healthy/unhealthy?" You attempt to explain in Arabic using vocabulary from Lessons 1–5. This activates prior knowledge and creates the context for today's advice language.
Nutrition vocabulary and lifestyle advice structures
Present nutrition vocabulary (البروتين، الكربوهيدرات، الدهون الصحية، الفيتامينات) — You may recognise international cognates. Connect to specific foods from Lesson 1: "السمك غني بالبروتين. الخبز يحتوي على الكربوهيدرات." Then advice structures: write on board — ينصح بـ، يحذِّر من، من الأفضَل أن، يجب أن. Drill each with a health example. Write 6 health advice sentences using all 4 structures — 2 positive (do this), 2 negative (avoid this), 2 from الأفضَل أن.
Health advice paragraph — 70–80 words
Write a health advice paragraph for a fictional unhealthy character (طالب يأكل الوجبات السريعة كل يوم ولا يتمرَّن أبداً). Structure: Paragraph 1 — describe the problem (يأكل... لا يتمرَّن... يشعر بالتعب). Paragraph 2 — give advice (يجب أن... ينبغي... من الأفضَل أن... ينصح بـ). Paragraph 3 — predicted result (إذا اتَّبع هذه النصائح، سيشعر بـ... — if he follows this advice, he will feel... — conditional sentence introduced as a set phrase). This integrative paragraph combines: food vocabulary (Lesson 1), health/illness vocabulary (Lesson 5), modal advice structures (Units 4–5 retrieval), and a preview of the conditional future tense.
Lifestyle comparison activity
Give You two fictional lifestyle profiles (Ahmad — very healthy; Sara — very unhealthy). Write 4 comparison sentences using أكثر صحةً من (healthier than) and أقل نشاطاً من (less active than) — introducing comparative structures with health adjectives ahead of D1–D6 F6 where comparatives are taught fully. At F5 level: You use the analytical أكثر/أقل structure only. "أحمد أكثر صحةً من سارة لأنَّه يتمرَّن يومياً."
Health pledge
Write a personal health pledge (تعهُّد صحي) for the next month: 3 things they will do (using سـ + present/future), 2 things they will avoid (using سأبتعد عن/ لن + verb — preview). Share with class. teacher or partner highlights: "Notice you are using the future tense to make health commitments — this is exactly what IGCSE Paper 4 topics about healthy lifestyles require." Preview that D1–D6 will formally teach the future tense.
